Protaras is best known for one beach, but it has ten worth knowing. The coastline runs from the pine-fringed cliffs near Cape Greco down toward Kapparis, and each cove has its own character: some built for lively beach-bar afternoons, others for quiet mornings with nobody else in the water. We've laid them out below roughly in the order you'd find them driving the coast road, so you can pick a favourite, or try a new one each day of your stay.
A pine-backed cove tucked beneath the cliffs of Cape Greco National Forest Park, Konnos is the beach people go to when they want the postcard without the crowds. The water is calm and clear enough to see straight to the seabed, making it one of the better spots on this stretch for snorkelling.
Protaras' signature beach, and one regularly ranked among Europe's best. Fine golden sand slopes into shallow, brilliantly turquoise water, watched over by the lone islet and fig tree that give the bay its name. It's the busiest beach on this list, but for good reason: restaurants, sunbeds, and watersports are all a few steps from your towel.
Right in the heart of the resort and an easy walk from most hotels and apartments, Sunrise Beach earns its name, so set your alarm early at least once for the view. Soft sand and a steady stream of nearby cafés make it a natural base for a morning swim before the town wakes up properly.
Just along the coast from Fig Tree Bay, Vrissiana, better known locally as Green Bay, offers the same soft sand and gentle, shallow water in a slightly more low-key setting. It's a favourite with families staying in the surrounding apartments who want the beach without the walk into town.
A long, sandy stretch backing onto Protaras' main hotel strip, Kalamies is the one to pick if you want a full watersports menu: jet skis, banana boats, and parasailing all launch from here. Plenty of beach bars mean you're never far from a cold drink or a sunbed.
The biggest stretch of sand on this list, and correspondingly the busiest by late morning. Come early or in the afternoon, or just keep walking past the main watersports area toward the far end of the beach bars, where it thins out and gets noticeably calmer. Strong swimmers sometimes cross to the small island offshore.
Set beside the small Nisia Loumbardi islets, this is a calmer, more residential stretch of coast favoured by families staying nearby rather than day-trippers. The water is gentle and shallow close to shore, and the pace here is noticeably slower than at the bigger beaches further along.
A small, tucked-away cove on the road between Protaras and Ayia Napa, easy to drive past without noticing. A single taverna overlooks the sand; the kind of spot to slow down for a long lunch and a swim rather than rush through on a beach-hopping day.
A modest, sandy beach with some of the clearest water on this stretch of coast, popular equally with tourists and locals from the surrounding villages. It's an easy, unfussy spot for an afternoon swim on the way to or from Ayia Napa.
The furthest-flung stop on this route, and worth the extra few minutes' drive. A small cove framed by rocky cliffs and genuinely turquoise water, with none of the crowds of the beaches back toward town. Bring your own snorkel: the rocky edges here hold plenty to look at.
